The six commandments for a long life

For over 25 years I am fascinated by the natural laws that determine our ageing process. Of course, everyone is talking about the “good genes”. But studies of identical twins have brought much insight about the external factors that are in our own hands. Why do identical twins age differently? 6 factors proved to determine a long and healthy life:

RESPECT THE RHYTHM OF DAY AND NIGHT

Do not live at night while you are sleeping during the day. This brings you into an artificial jet lag and undermines the biorhythm.

REGULAR AND SMALL MEALS

Eating at regular intervals is more important than what we eat. Taking time for a meal and eating less is the message. Finally 95% of what we eat is waste that we must separate from the useful food components.

NO HEAVY PHYSICAL WORK AFTER YOUR 45th YEAR

This generates oxidative stress. Delegate to the younger ones in due time is the message. After all, we have a reduced hormonal level. Mental creativity takes over from the physical work. But creativity has to remain. If our added value disappears, we have less reason to exist. Attention! Creativity as an added value is not only reserved for artists. Even a beggar and so called ‘disabled persons’ have their added value.

A GOOD PARTNERSHIP

The partner is seen here in the broadest sense of the word. Someone who completes us and who points out our limitations and qualities. This allows us to see clearer who we are. A husband wife relationship is very common but don’t underestimate other relations such as work, family, neighbours, friends, etc.

A SOCIAL INTEGRATION

Knowing who we are within the group is essential. To be accepted by the group and to accept our own position within the group are both required.. It is a two way street. “A president who is not accepted by his crowd or one who is accepted but does not feel like he’s up to the job, is worse off than the postman happily delivering his letters.

NO FEELING OF SHORTAGE

How high or low our income may be, living within these limits without a feeling of shortage is essential for long life. So you always have that secure feeling that your will meet ends. Happy elderly people live within their budget without complaining.

With these facts in mind it is clear that life in sync with our nature and in harmony with our society is the basis for a healthy life. Crystal clear for those who do not worry too much. A nightmare for all those who want to adjust everything to their image of life.
