A study at the Missouri University of Science and Technology shows that the sun cream which is supposed to protect us against skin cancer is not as safe as it should be. According to analyses of the cell toxicity, zinc oxide, a commonly used ingredient in sun creams, undergoes a chemical reaction upon which free radicals are released which may damage cells or their DNA. The authors had broached the subject already in 2009 and are working on the publication of more detailed results in the magazine Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology.
